As an integral part of its research activities, IIASA employs its advanced methodologies to enable policy--relevant analyses of emission control strategies for different parts of the worlds.

As of early 2009, model implementations for the following regions are available:

• For Europe, the GAINS model enables a full assessment of the interactions and synergies between air pollution control and greenhouse gas mitigation.
• The same methodology has been implemented for China and India, and facilitates the development of air pollution control strategies that, as a co-benefit, minimize emissions of greenhouse gases.
• The GAINS methodology has been applied to compare GHG mitigation potentials, associated costs and resulting co-benefits on air pollution for the Annex I countries of the UNFCCC Convention.
