The online calculator allows an interactive comparison of mitigation efforts among the Annex I Parties in 2020.
The user can specify targets in any of following criteria, individually for a selected Party, or a common target for all Annex I Parties. The calculator provides resulting allocations to Parties, considering different frameworks for flexible instruments.
The tool calculates, for a given mitigation target in 2020, for each Annex I Party,
- resulting GHG emissions
- national total GHG emissions (in Mt CO2eq),
- on a per-capita basis,
- change in emissions relative to 1990/2005,
- implied GHG mitigation costs
- the resulting carbon price,
- total costs for the Party,
- per-capita GHG mitigation costs,
- costs as a percentage of the GDP in 2020.
In addition, the user can specify four different settings for the use of flexible instruments:
- all measures are implemented domestically in each Annex I country,
- with carbon trading within Annex I countries,
- with CDM permits, but without trading within Annex I countries,
- with CDM permits and carbon trading within Annex I countries.
The analysis can be conducted for alternative baseline projections (under development),and simulating discount rates of social planners or private actors.
